Namaste - January 2010
Om Shanti Beloved Readers, Namaste to you all. I hope you all bathed in
the joy of Christmas and wishing you a wonderful New Year which I hope brings
you lots more joy! Our newsletter has been expanding rapidly and we will
be linking the newsletter to our new website all to be launched at a later
date which should resolve all the technical difficulties some readers have
had.
I love this months words of wisdom. Swami Sharadananda once said to us that through pain we learn and grow the most. I thought this might help those of us who make New Year's resolutions! (although there is much more behind this particular message than cutting out sweets of course.) Happy Hare New Year. Jai Gurudev! x
SRI SWAMI SATCHIDINANDA'S MONTHLY WORDS
The Fire of Wisdom
“Tapasya means to burn the seeds of karma in the fire of wisdom, in the
discipline of Yoga. Tapasya is translated as ‘austerity’ in English. By
accepting pain, suffering, hardship, you burn out all the impurities. If
you want to avoid all pain and, if you only seek pleasure, then it’s as
though you are adding water to seeds that will sprout. In the world you
can enjoy two things: the pleasurable things and those that are good. However,
not all pleasures are good. It’s quite pleasurable to scratch an itch, but
then the itch requires more and more and more scratching, until, ultimately,
you bleed and you burn. All these worldly pleasures are like scratching
itches. Once you start scratching, you can’t stop. That is the nature of
sensual enjoyments. So, we should always see the difference between good
and pleasure.
Congratulations....
to Kalyani who passed her basic Teacher Training course at the ashram
earlier this year. Lovely to have another joining expanding group of IY
teachers in Dorset and the New Forest.
The Dorset based beginners teacher training is about to start so good luck to all our new teacher trainees. May you all grow in love and light in your journey ahead and we look forward to congratulating you!

This month's article: The Special Yoga Centre in
London
The centre is a charity helping to provide yoga therapy for children with
special needs and support to their families. It is very dear to this Ed's
heart, having spent time undertaking several training's there and witnessing
first hand their wonderful work with children with special needs. The Yoga
for the Special Child course was developed by Sonia Sumar, one of Gurudev's
long time devotees based on Integral Yoga and her own experience of having
a child with a special need. Sonia developed yoga therapy utilising the
amazing love and transformation that yoga provides to help her child reap
the incredible benefits of yoga and this work has spread to thousands of
others around the world.
It is well worth a visit to their centre in London to take part in their regular events and courses. They have some wonderful courses on offer for both teachers and students. Proceeds from the events goes to the Special Yoga Centre Charity to enable them to continue offering yoga therapy to infants and children with special needs, and to continue to provide support to their families.
Here is a taster of their events for the upcoming months but please do visit their website and sign up with them to keep updated on future events.
